General Information
Congress Venue
The XX EACMFS Congress will take place at the Concertgebouw (Concert Hall) and Site Oud St.-Jan.
The Concertgebouw (Concert Hall), Bruges' stunning 21st-century concert hall is the work of architects Paul Robbrecht and Hilde Daem and takes its design cues from the city's three famous towers and red brick architecture. It is a new building which provides a unique setting with state-of-the-art architecture which is in striking contrast to the medieval part of Bruges. It is a centre for performances in music and dance and is a great location for events.
The site of Oud Sint-Jan is the oldest hospital building in Europe. Until 1978 it was used as a hospital - since then, it harbours the Memling museum, the hospital museum, the old pharmacy and the cultural centre where conferences and cultural activities are being organised. The hospital was built to provide housing and care to pilgrims, passers-by and travelling salesmen. In the 19th century, the hospital was reconstructed and modernised according to the plans of the architect, Isidoor Alderweirelt. Fortunately, the old buildings were left intact and can still be visited today. In the 1970’s, a new, modern hospital complex was built in Bruges and after 8 centuries of functioning as a hospital, Oud Sint-Jan became a museum and a conference centre.
